How do I get home care services for a loved one?

Sometimes, as our loved ones age, they begin to need a little more help around the house. Whether it's assistance with laundry or housework or meal preparation, their families may not always be able to do everything they need. That's where Apelah can help. Apelah's non-medical in-home care serves anyone in DeSoto, Tate, Tunica, or Marshall Counties. We take private paying clients as well as those with the Medicaid Elderly and Disabled Waiver. Our personal care attendants come to our clients' homes at a time that works for them and provide them with the assistance they need. Wondering what it looks like to help your loved one’s access care? Here are the steps involved in receiving home care from Apelah:

  1. Call the Apelah office at 662-429-3652 for an initial phone interview. Our program director will talk with you or your loved one about the client's needs, payment options, and if Apelah seems like the best fit. Apelah has a minimum requirement of at least 4 hours of care a week. If you need services that we don't offer, we can refer you to a provider who does.

  2. If the client decides that they would like to be admitted, the Apelah In-Home Care program director or case manager will come to their home for an in-person intake session. Along with signing the necessary forms, we will chat with the client, get to know them, and talk more in-depth about their needs. If the client is private pay, we will need a 2-week deposit before services can begin. If they have Medicaid, they will need to have the Medicaid Elderly and Disabled Waiver

  3. After the intake session, Apelah will assign a personal care attendant to come to the client's home during the hours agreed to by the client. Services will begin as soon as possible, sometimes within one day, depending on the needs of the client and Apelah's staffing availability.

  4. During COVID-19, your personal care attendant will call the home before arriving in order to do a quick pre-screen of the client. This will help determine if the client is experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Apelah's staff works hard to make all of our clients feel comfortable. We want them to stay in their own homes as long as possible. If you're looking to help a parent or a loved one find care, we hope you choose Apelah.
